Unterammergau, your pleasant holiday resort
The recreation village Unterammergau is a comfortable village with about 1500 inhabitants. It lies about 100 km south of Munich in the verry south of Bavaria in the destrick of Garmisch-Partenkirchen. Unterammergau is surrounded by mountains, seas, cloisters, nice churches and castles. Between the Werdenfelser Land and Pfaffenwinkel, it lies in 845m of sea level.

Unterammergau’s Houses are well decorated with flowers or painted with Lüftelmalerei. A charming nature with clean air invites you to pedal tours, walking-tours on the mountain or in the valley. You find a huge number of well marked and completed trails in the traveling maps of the region. In comfortable alpine huts, inns and restaurants, you can pause agreeable.

Things that are worth seeing in Unterammergau is the Schleifmühlklamm with the rests of disused dragging mills with brought richness by manufacturing whetstones to Unterammergau in former times. The catholic parish church Saint Nikolaus is rich in decoration and repays a visit just like the pilgrimage church “Kappel” which is built 20 walking minutes to the north on a bank.

In the Winter, seven ski-lifts offer about 5.5 km ski-run slope with flood light for skiing by night. On cross-country ski runs, you can walk through the whole region apart the traffic. The summer and winter toboggan run as well as the funpark in Unterammergau, the in/outdoor swimming pool with slides in “Wellenberg” of Oberammergau give pleasure to young and old.

Different arrangements like slide evenings, film evenings, traditional evenings, guidance through the village, torch hikes show you the village of Unterammergau. Katholic corpus Christi processions, horse rides at Leonhards day and the traditional “Kirchtasingen” or pageants of the oxiliary fire brigade, the musik association, shooting club or traditional costume association form highlights within events in Unterammergau.
